About the Band
Why Pinn Panelle?
(Pin Puh-nell)
From Derek…
“It’s the words “pin panel” made to sound more like a human name, so that the band moniker would sound less inanimate and more organic. I realized that a lot of our band’s music is about human relationships, so I thought of a time when one was genuinely evident in my life. I ended up remembering when me and my brothers would go to a place similar to Chucky Cheese’s and play a teenage mutant ninja turtles pachinko machine - where you drop a ball into a hole at the top of the machine and it would descend through a system of pegs; and eventually fall into a certain slot.
The image of the pegs really resonated with me; it seemed to symbolize how so many people today perceive the world. The ball is never exactly free to move wherever it wants to go, its movements may be unpredictable at times, but it’s motion is restrained by the equally spaced pegs. People think that love is conditional and quantifiable, that life is really just divided up into segments (i.e. junior high, high school, college, job), when the truth is that there is no way to quantify love, whether it is hours spent or gifts; and there is no limit to the possibilities of the events in our lives.”
